Why do we make drugs illegal? As far as I'm concerned, you can shoot yourself up with an overdose of heroin and die for all I care. Your body, your choice. You can also go jump off a bridge, if that's what you really wanna do. We don't make drugs illegal because the substance itself harms people, or we'd have banned alcohol, tobacco, and caffeine by now as well.
We make them illegal because the harder drugs like crack, heroin, PCP, etc, causes them to perform actions that endanger others. Violence, aggression, hallucinations, etc. It leads to chemical dependence, which leads to crime as people mug, rob, or burgle others to get the scratch together to get another rock. It causes serious strains on the medical system. It isn't about them at that point, so the public has a vested interest in controlling it.
I have never met a violent pothead. Have you? Ever known of someone who's overdosed on pot? (Hint: you can't.) The only way they've been able to kill a lab rat with marijuana is by dropping a 20lb brick of it on its head.
What's the worse thing reported in those studies? A slightly elevated risk of schizophrenia? Big friggin' whoop. In exchange for saving a few people from a "slightly elevated risk of schizophrenia" we're okay with a drug war that costs hundreds of billions per year and has gotten over 6,000 people murdered just in the past year. I was especially fond of the pot smugglers that draw-and-quartered the Tijuana police chief a couple years ago. Was a nice touch when they left his severed head on his wife's doorstep. But hey, totally worth it, right?
My grandmother drank herself to death over 20 years. Destroyed her liver, got another on the public dime, destroyed that one, then died of alcohol intoxication after downing a straight quart of screw-top grocery store vodka. (They didn't even have to drop 20lbs of it on her head.) Nobody cared. Her body, her choice, right? Alcohol's legal, and nobody argues it shouldn't be, 'cuz we saw what happened when we tried last time.
Even though I don't smoke, I have a real hard time listening to people lecture others on pot use while sitting there holding a Guinness. You are many times more likely to stagger out of there drunk, (without realizing you're drunk), get behind the wheel and kill someone, than any pothead I've ever known. Most potheads I know can be stoned out of their mind and still 10x more cognizant, aware, and less likely to hurt someone than just about anyone I know after two martinis.
Don't even get me started on cigarettes. 160,000 people dying every year from lung cancer and other smoking-related complications, dragging down our medical system and making the rest of us pay for it, and you want to sit there hand-wringing that marijuana use is dangerous because it has a tenuous connection to benign short-term memory loss? Give me a ***' break.
Legalize pot, or try banning tobacco and alcohol again. It's the only way to be internally consistent.
well the argument was mostly if it was harmful or not, it clearly is just not to a hardcore extent, and it can be more harmful if it's abused. Like alcohol, and don't get me started on cigarettes... second hand smoking can even kill someone with chronical athsma lol.
I could care less if it's legalized, legalized or NOT, people will do it at the same rate, have it's same public, if anything I go for legalizing it, lol maybe it will help the economy and it will keep the kids safe when they are getting it, considering if you don't get it from a private dealer you are pretty much screwed to hit the spot, and those spots also sell other things, and that's where the lunatics are really at.
You can't really overdose on weed lol probably pass out to death from the high and sleep a billion hours, You can though overdose if you mix it, that is already have some meds on your system, or atleast one drink, like a beer or so and have too much weed, that can really *** you up. I've overdosed before on it, but not because of it, simply because I was on meds for other things.
I don't think anyone on weed will have a violent behaviour, my ex pretty much smoke himself to death and he had a tendency to lash out when he was sober, he would get irritated very easily too when he wasn't high, it was part of who he was by nature, nothing related to him not having the drug or what not, and when we would argue and he was high, it was the best arguments, pretty much anything i shouted at him was cool. One time he did lash out horribly at me high, but i had pushed his limit that night, i have to admit.
my dad though, on the other hand is a jackass when he's drunk and he's pretty aggressive with his words too, I guess the real him shows lol.
I'd rather destroy myself with weed than with alcohol/cigarettes if I had to pick my poison.

You can get pot either way. The whole idea behind drug decriminalization is to regulate the industry (drug smuggling), provide a further way of making money, and helping people with addictions recieve treatment instead of throwing them in jail.
My point is, it's READILY available already for abuse. Keeping it illegal hasn't changed that at all.
I understand the whole concept and I can see how it could work... but in the same way I think it could backfire and just end having more people abuse the drug. Also, if you legalize marijuana, who's to say we wont legalize cocaine in 20 or 50 years? If it works like you say it is, then all the angsty teenagers are gonna just move on to the next illegal drug.
I'm far less convinced, I guess, on the decriminalization of harder drugs. I understand your point in saying "well where does it end?"..
I still think it would be BETTER though, because like I said:
We need to start treating people, not jailing them. They manage to get drugs in jail anyway, get out, continue using.
But you know, I'd prefer (under decriminalization) that if the Government regulated the industry and taxed people for use, that our money go there to possibly help build bridges and roads.
Course, we can keep funding the warchest for South American drug cartels to finance their bloody war in Mexico. That's ok too I guess. lol
A good portion of the drug dealers are from gangs or some other form of crime related people. This is their biggest income, drugs. Making all drugs legal and marketing them would cut down on crime without a doubt.
The money being used to build ***we need among building extra rehab centers would be a great idea.
People seem to be under the impression anarchy occurs when drugs are legal. A lot of ppl don't do drugs because they don't want to, not because they are illegal, and a lot of ppl only do them because they are illegal. When it stops becoming *** "cool" to smoke pot, it will be used medicinally more widely for even more purposes.
Some of the legal prescriptions these days are almost as bad as drugs. And as or more addictive. It's not hard to get anti-depressants these days, doctors hand that ***out like candy.

I agree that drugs might have some medicinal purposes.
On the same note free commercial availability of some of the more dangerous drugs could be extremely dangerous.

it's true you can't drive while high, I don't have a drivers liscence, personaly because I am freaked out of driving, I can drive though, but one night my ex was high enough he said 'ok you drive' and basicly died at my side while I was stuck with the wheel D: I drove home though <.> almost crashed his mom car.

actually you'd be surprised how much one drink can *** you up, specialy if you already have stomach problems before hand.
one drink can even cause you acid reflux instantly, or make you feel nauseated, even dizzy.
and one puff of smoke can instantly give you an athsma attack.
and you don't always really get high with weed from one or two small hits probably feel a little dizzy, but don't actually get the 'high' unless your really that weak to it lol <.> heck most people that smoke the first time don't feel ***, i didn't. weed affects more the mind than the body if anything.

i quit smoking weed 3 years ago for personal reasons and also cuz its illegal...maybe if it was legal id prolly smoke it...i havent read all the posts but i do think the child with the bong is a bit much..some people just get stupid when they get high

Once upon a time, in a land far far away called China... There was a magical plant called the opium poppy! Now the Chinese people loved the opium poppy. They loved it oh so much that they would smoke it all day long. But they loved the opium poppy too much! They did nothing but lay around and smoke opium all day! Their wives and children starved while they wasted away smoking opium. The whole country was crippled under this magical plant. Many would sell everything they owned even prostitute their wives and daughters just so that they could smoke more opium. Eventually they stopped smoking opium but it remained a problem for the Chinese people for a long time and that is why you should do never do drugs!

people will do it regardless if it's illegal or not if they REALLY want the drug that badly, legalizing it just helps on court or when your car gets checked if anything. you get your car removed and what not if it's found with weedz D: had a friend happen to him, so what he got another car and still smokes but he's more careful where he buys from now.
though the pros and cons of it being legalized are very heavy. I think if it gets legalized there should be some heavy rules on it so people who abuse it get the law hammer on their ***.

from what i understand one of the many reasons we wont legalize it is because it stays in the system longer than alcohol and other ***etc..but imo alcohol is a lot more dangerous than weed...might as well legalize it

weed only stays on the system for 4 hours max, that's if you don't keep smoking, 6 hours at the most if it's another kind of weed, like creepy or hydro, these are mixed with heavy chemicals and aren't really natural.
I think alcohol stays longer, provided you don't get the drunk effect instantly? and the after effects of alcohol are worse than weed, aka hangovers, throwing up.

I couldn't give a crap whether people want to smoke any type of drug, it is their life to do with as they please.... but what is happening in this photo is just wrong in so many ways!
If you want to take drugs, do so away from your kids and don't take 'joke' photos of your baby with a bong!
I hope the stupid mother who took this photo is going to be closely supervised from now on as her parenting skills are obviously below par.
