McALLEN — A McAllen man has been arrested in the death of his 2-year-old stepdaughter who authorities say was beaten because she wouldn't stop crying while he was watching a weekend World Cup match.
Police Chief Victor Rodriguez says 28-year-old Hector Castro was arrested Saturday and is expected to be formally charged Monday with capital murder. Rodriguez says Castro told police the girl wouldn't stop crying while he was watching the U.S.-Ghana match on Saturday afternoon.
The girl was severely beaten, and police say a screw or bolt was forced into her throat afterward in an apparent attempt to make it look like the girl choked accidentally.
