I got my wife to start the torrent at home on the desktop as well. Hopefully I'll be able to get my laptop and desktop both going tomorrow.

You'll need to do the torrents a few times. Basically after each torrent your XIV will update itself and then you have more torrents to do. I had to do that about 3 times. The largest were one at 3.5Gb and one at 1.23Gb.

huh? you don't have the 8/30 version done? just out of curiosity... who is downloading the 8/30 patch? i'm getting abysmal download rates.... like my top is 24kb/s

Yes he will need to do the 8/30 one. Use Utorrent or another Torrent Downloader. The FFXIV updater sucks

There's a whole lot of talk on the beta forums that it's starting out as a limited open beta. The first open beta invitations have already been sent, and everyone else has to wait a week or two.

There's no official word on this, though. We'll see tomorrow.

That's pretty messed up if they say 'open beta' then limit it.

I am, and i'm still only getting 20kb/s >.<
there's something weird though, it's a red download arrow instead of a blue one like it normally is. what does that mean? did i do it wrong? I'm using Bitorrent btw.

For some instructions on using a torrent program (uTorrent recommended... it's the best one)

~go to:
C:\Documents and Settings\user\My Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version\downloads\ffxiv-beta\bca2a8ae\metainfo

~You will see torrent files there. Open them all with your torrent client.

~After you have downloaded them all at an amazingly fast speed, move them into the nearby folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\user\My Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version\downloads\ffxiv-beta\bca2a8ae\patch

~if you open your ffxiv program and it begins to download new files, just stop and go back to check the metainfo folder for the new ones. Repeat the process with them.

NOTE: when you open your ffxiv program, it will take a short time check the downloaded files. Don't mistake this for new file downloads.

Yeah, this is kind of ridiculous. My down speed suddenly dropped. I set my up speed to unlimited out of curiosity and it jumped above 200 kB/s.

how many seeders are available?

26% done on the 8/27 version, only been about two hours on this one; time to let the downloader go for the night. It is good to know that it is the client that sucks and not my connection though.

If the "open beta" is invite only I am going to go Godzilla on SE HQ.

But this isn't the first limited open beta in the history of the world. They just let everyone in gradually, rather than all at once.

Still. I'm at 2.6%. that's lower than 90% of the peers I connect to. I should be able to break 40 kB/s.

wait, am i failing because i'm not connected to the tracker? it won't connect... why?

i'm also uploading at like 60kb/s yet i'm downloading at like 5-10kb/s.... totally not cool.

You're still connected to DHT, etc, right? If so then you're fine. The tracker probably only works from the client. Or maybe that's the clients main problem (broken tracker).

yeah, i'm connected to the first three, but the rest are connected... i don't understand how everyone else is downloading so fast though >.<

I agree. It seems like most of the people I'm connected to have their upload rate limited (or actually disabled based off the low numbers). Most of my download has come from the same seed.

I thought utorrent had a way to 'ban' peers? I want to ban some of the *** who are downloading but not uploading.

Can anyone PM me a link to the actual client? All I've been able to find in here is the location of torrents after the client is installed.

Krizz, did your DL speed just jump or was it just me? I increased the amount of peers I can be connected to at one time and my speed jumped to 60+

Thank you very much. I'm gonna DL it when i get home from work in a couple hours then update it throughout the night so that I can have it all up and running when the doors open depend on if its limited open or not.

I've heard good things about the Character Creation so I'm looking forward to that, maybe moreso than the actual game. If all goes well, you guys will be seeing me on Ultimecia(sp?)

Mine should be set to unlimited or some ridiculously high number of peers. I'll doublecheck my settings.

Edit: Tweaked the settings. No change. Would help if I could 'ban' people from the peers list and only keep the ones with unlimited or decent upload limits.

Do I just like drag and drop them into the FFXICV-beta folder? Or do I have to put them somewhere inside said folder?
