So in the end, which card would you recommend, I could get a PSU tomorrow but I wanna know for sure if the card would work with my PC all right. I can't speak for the 460, I *** hate Nivida with a passion..
I can however tell you, that I ran my 4870 on a Core 2 Duo that was running at 2.13GHz, the 5770 isn't all that much different then the 4870, and my 4870 runs this game on max, beautifully. When my 4870 was in my Core 2 Duo rig, I never had a single issue with it.
So if I buy 4870 HD and run it at 2.50GHz, would it run, say..Starcraft 2 at decent graphics?
Should.. I know my card runs it just fine at highest settings, and the requirements for Starcraft 2 for a CPU is only a Pentium 4 at 2.6GHz

Err, nevermind, the 4870 is around 350-400. I guess I'll probably go for 5770.

I'd go with the Nvidia one since you have a Intel CPU and if you want to later on upgrade, you wont be able to crossfire ATI with intel or AMD with Nvidia, there are a few mobos that support both but they are expensive. And get the CPU cooler later on when you can, as you'll see it was worth it, you wont regret it.

I like this compared to the Nvidia because of the cost. Is there a reason I need to get Nvidia for an Intel processor?

What resolution of monitor are you using?
Also does your motherboard support Sli? if so, then there shouldn't be any point really going Intel with Nvidia.

So final advice, I'm being thorough with this because I usually rush into buying stuff and waste money. Like the Geforce 210 (lolwut). So a 4870 ATI radeon with 500W PSU would be a massive upgrade to my graphics right? And won't have any hiccups even if it's intel?

It will be a significant upgrade, given that the one you have isn't made for gaming, and more for media.

Correct, I was running it on a lesser system, and I had no problems..
The only issue you >MIGHT< face is that the PSU doesn't have all the right connections to run the rest of your hardware, if you want to, I can check it out for you to make sure the PSU I gave you will match, but I need the make/model of your PSU in there currently.
EDIT: Just incase, if you want me to check it all out, post the link to the PSU you plan to buy with the make/model of the one in there now..

ATI 4870 would be fine then, i'd still try to go for the cooler, you'll see a huge difference if you get it to 3.0Ghz
Edit: 4870 the 1GB version

Yeah, definitely will keep in mind about the cooler. I sold my xbox 360 and all the games to deck out my desktop, gotta' make it worthwhile.

Where it shows the Wattage (should be a label on the inside of your case on the PSU itself) do you see any distinguishing numbers/letters at all?
Or, if it's a pre-made PC, what make/model is it (EX: HP m6650n)

If it's the correct wattage, you could go with the adaptor that comes with the video card and the PSU you already have, those work fine, unless you have one of those no brands PSU.

Yeah, that's exactly it. I have no clue because my dad bought it for himself and left it at my place..forever. It has to be the most basic one that comes with it, if that makes sense.

I'm going to go check it at this computer store near my house first so I can pick it up right away instead of waiting for it. But probably the one you mentioned with 6 pins and such and 500W+

Okay, best I can tell (kinda hard to find an exact model of your PSU with the PC make/model) everything should work just fine.. Unless you've added in some extra harddrives/optical drives or something.
Worst case scenario you just have to pick up some male-female converters, though I doubt it'll be necessary
If you want to double check for yourself you can open your case up and look at everything that has a lead coming from the PSU and compare it with the picture below (minus the GPU you have currently)
Anyways, I'm off to bed, send me a PM if you have any more questions.
ok so im having a PC built for me and tbh im not a guy who's good with pc tech (hvae no idea) but ive had a mate of mine around says this should be OK to play 14 just so you guys know i dont want to play this on HI spec medium or low is fine here is the specs i have atm
Processor
Intel pentium duel core G6950 2.80GHz 3MB cache +HD graphics
Motherboard
ASUS P7H55D-M EVO: MICRO ATX USB 3.0 &SATA 3.0GB/s
RAM
4GB DDR3 1333MHz
Graphics card
1GBATI Radion HD 5770 PCI EXPRESS (aint sure about this)- Direct x 11
So will it run it or what do i need to change? thanks in advance!
