Western astrology omits Ophiuchus because it doesn't fit in with what they want to line it up with, and it's a lot easier to do it that way rather than going by something as specific as constellations.
I honestly say it's just an excuse.
I'd rather go by the constellations than a hard coded zodiac time-table that apparently doesn't have to correlate with anything in reality. :D

Except nothing has changed, at least not by more than a day. It has been known that the dates were wrong for hundreds, if not a thousand+ years. The only change now is that apparently more people are aware that the dates are wrong. Anyone who's ever taken an astronomy class, or did a tiny bit of research into it already knew this long ago.

Actually it applies only if you follow Sidereal Astrology which takes into account the positions of specific constellations. This news is not new and has nothing to do with 2009, its been in effect for thousands of years and was discovered hundreds of years ago.

Western astrology follows the tropical zodiac, which is fixed to the seasons and thus based on the sun not the constellations.

The article which caused all of this drama is taking advantage of people's ignorance and presenting this as "new" information. The western zodiac has not changed. Move along people, nothing to see here.
