Star Wars The Old Republic
Oh hey they're making it into an MMO
Haters gonna hate. I have loved this game since release just gonna love it more now.
coodoes to them, hopefully they keep big updates like that coming and keep making whats good about the game alive(story/quests) otherwise they will lose their community.
does anyone have any issues with the game play..... simple stuff like moving, its weird cause originally starting the game its in full screen.. and lags like a mother, but when i switched to the great and powerful windowed mode, runs like a champ.
![]() incoming necro: They have launched their F2P trial up to level 15, so I am checking it out. You can just download the game without having to buy the disc. So far I'm just getting acclimated, can't access general chat but can /say. I don't even know if I can group yet, but if anyone else wants to play for free, I'm on Harbinger server, Viciouss...with 2 S's >.>
So they are letting you use a TRIAL PERIOD up to level 15?
Thats cool.. but plz dont say F2P.... I hate that. It makes it sound like SWTOR is already going over to the dark side. Yeah i played that for a bit and it was just too repetitive. There wasnt anything to do but grind until you hit the level cap, and even then the options were limited. A bunch of us from work were playing on our shifts off, but everyone quit due to lack of content. I'm not sure if it happened yet, but someone mentioned them merging servers a couple months ago already.

It's already there. F2P would give it what little life BioWare could possibly squeeze at this point. They've already had a bunch of free to lv10 weekends... Honestly with the all the free time they've been handing out to keep people around/comming back I wouldn't be suprised to see it going F2P sometime soon. Idk how it is now but when I left it was pritty much shaping up to be a roleplay MMO over gameplay, which is ok but just not my thing.

Also I was trying to point out earlier.. F2P up to level 10/15/20 is not F2P, thats just them using that term because it attracts a certain crowd... Its a Trial period.. no matter what they call it. And them giving these trial periods means nothing. WoW has a trial to lvl 20 and they are not going F2P anytime soon I would wager I'd hate to be in charge of Bioware right now, the amount of dollar they put into the game only to have it crash against WoW like water upon rock and fade away.
I'm basing that more off the number of subscriptions that seem to drop off. It pritty much goes the same way for everyone that plays the game, like it at first, get to lv 50, get bored real fast, drop subscription.
My reason for dropping rant below As I said idk how it is now but when I left over 90% of the game was solo content, everything they were doing said they were fully expecting people to level one of most the classes if not every one. Everyone was saying the same thing, more content for 50s, they kept giving us 1-50 content insteed. They didn't crash against WoW, the game is just ***. ...from an MMO perspective. As a single player experience, albeit retooled a bit to be less quest hub grindy stuff, it would have been fine. But they done goofed and made a single player MMO with horrible PvP.
I'd start playing again if it went F2P, the way it is now is just not good.

This is potentially the problem with The secret world as well. People generally expect you to solo everything, you can send random invites if you know they are doing the same mission. PvP is... well depends on the day. The story is AWESOME, but I wonder what happens when you Max out your experience, and get all the weapons you need from PvP. I am scared for endgame. I think this will be a game I will play, drop off for a few months, come back for a week or 2, drop off for a few more months... I got a lifetime sub, so i can afford to do that^^ Catnipthief Rygar said: » I'd start playing again if it went F2P, the way it is now is just not good. Heh, if it went F2P I would never ever touch it again^^ That they offer lifetime subs makes me think even more that its going down... Thats generally a MMOs last ditch attempt to bring in some money before going F2P a few months later isn't it? It just screams "We have no faith in our game" to me.

Heh, if it went F2P I would never ever touch it again^^ weeeeeell since a million+ people are already saying the same about it having a subscription to begin with... I love the game overall, yes there's not a ton of endgame content yet. But the pvp community is thriving. If you love whooping ***, or getting your *** whooped it's amazingly fun.

That means I'm out^^, The game is fun, I mean I'm a star wars nerd at heart, but there's just not enough content to justify playing it right now lol.
I wouldn't mind playing it just for the story... but the planets were fun the first time though. Second time through they were just a chore : (
I love Star Wars lore through and through, but while playing the game, I never felt "immersed" in the world, like I was actually part of it. Maybe it's because I was on a low population server, i'm not sure, but whatever it was, it just felt like something was missing.

The way the game is going ... I'm sure it will go F2P soon enough.
