It passed by ONE vote.

Comment by one of the Republican Senators who reversed their opinion and allowed it to pass:

“You get to the point where you evolve in your life where everything isn't black and white, good and bad, and you try to do the right thing,” McDonald, 64, told reporters.

“You might not like that. You might be very cynical about that. Well, f$@k it, I don't care what you think. I'm trying to do the right thing. I'm tired of Republican-Democrat politics. They can take the job and shove it. I come from a blue-collar background. I'm trying to do the right thing, and that's where I'm going with this.”

A Republican state senator actually said this in the press?
That's beyond awesome. Good for him.

Isn't there supposed to be separation of church and state in the government anyways? So why are we making laws based on religion? I pondered this and my brain decided to try to hang itself.

We, the voters, empower those who are in favor or against the anti-gay witch-hunt agendas! D:

Yes, there is supposed to be separation of church and state in the USA, and at the federal level, such separation (for the most part) does in fact exist. It's one of the most vital principles upon which the USA was founded after the Revolutionary War.

However, at the State government level (and even more-so at the township/local government level), the lines are (much) fuzzier. Some states' government practices are definitely biased with religious dogma, almost exclusively Christian dogma, particularly in the "Deep South" (excluding Florida) and in Texas.

I hope this doesn't offend you Elanabelle, but usually I think you're a moronic ***. However, this is... actually, this is no different.

Seriously, if you don't want to offend, why say it?

Meh, because I wanted to say it, Blazza.
I usually disregard what Scrumpet posts, but despite that, I continue to read his stuff, and this time, I laughed a ton and wanted to give him a thumbs-up.

Leave me alone and block my posts if you really think I'm a moronic *** or you don't want to read what I write. Otherwise, send me a PM, and leave this topic on-topic. Thanks.

Weren't you one of the people preaching about "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" after the forums changed? :I

I sure was! And I stand by that.
However, telling a user that I typically ignore his posts hardly counts as being derisive.
Nonetheless, in your honor, I will go back and delete the supposedly offending comment.

Lawl, I don't even know who you are and I don't even care about you. >_>;

Unless you secretly lurk the LGBT thread, I do not know of many other threads I post in. @@;

Usually it's just a random, "Ohai thar! This is my two cents~ ktnxbai!"

But seriously, why would you tell someone that?
I am pretty sure you wouldn't go up to a person and say, "Hey, I hope this doesn't offend you but, when you talk - even when it is not directed towards me - I don't pay attention because your opinion is invalid. Oh, by the way, I love your calendar by your desk - it made me laugh. :)"

My family was talking about this at lunch at my grandmother's house today, and not in a good way.

Ehh, due to the background their were raised in, this is a big change for them and they are obviously not used to the difficulties that members of the LGBTetc community face that are different from the straight community.

I usually tend to reassure myself that they are more than likely saying negative comments due to the lack of exposure so, instead of resisting and going against them, I just ask for them to express empathy.

Oh, my parents accept me, it's just my grandparents who don't even know that I'm gay and have a strong opinion about homosexual relationships/marriage. :D
