At E3 2011, only one game turned more heads than The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and that was Bioshock: Infinite. And here's why; just released to the public on Thursday, the full, behind-closed-doors demo.
This is my most eagerly anticipated game right now.
Fall 2012 is the rumored Target date, unforunately. That gives a lot of time to enjoy other "Lesser" title, but even with Skyrim a mere 4 months away, I find myself more enthralled with Bioshock: Infinite.
It looks like they're tightening up the shooter aspects, which in some ways is good. For example, limited weapon capacity I've always actually been a fan of, because it injects a level of strategic inventory management on a genre that isn't normally associated with that. But a change I'm not so thrilled about, is the Regenerating health. I always liked "Health Pack" style shooting mechanics, it was a nice way to gauge how well, or how poorly you did in an encounter, and it also gave some urgency to exploration.
i hope they improve the gameplay, but if the story is anywhere near bs1 then it will be spectacular.
I'm glad someone felt like that too. Bioshock 1 had some of the weakest FPS mechanics of it's generation. Only through a miracle of level design, atmosphere and storytelling, did it become one of the most lauded examples of how powerful the medium can be. While I won't say the Gameplay was weak (Exploration is often neglected when considering Gameplay mechanics) I will say, it was far weaker than some "Dumb" games, like Call of Duty.
It looks like they did try to address that in Infinite, but we'll see.

I view the exploring as a medium for transmitting the story and mood more than an aspect of the gameplay. The way they distributed collectables items told a lot about the story, and wasn't terribly difficult from a technical standpoint.
I'm glad that theyre adding the Vox Populi, the constant blaring of Atlus Shrugged-esque principles was tiring and I don't think lamb provided a sufficient to foil to ryan's extremism in 2.
I loved the first Bioshock, but avoided the second because I heard they butchered it to death. I'm hesitant.
You shouldn't be, Infinite isn't a sequel the same way Bioshock 2 was.
Bioshock and Infinite are like System Shock and Bioshock. Same philosophy, different execution. Also, it's actually the same team, instead of 2k just goin "WE NEEDS TEH MUNIEZ, WE HERD THEY LIEK BIG DADDIES" ushering in Bioshock 2's creation with a totally different creative team.
That trailer looked amazing :O I need to go play Bioshock 2 now.
Edit: well demo.
Bioshock 2 is a cockslap to everything that made Bioshock great.
It really is a "Hollywood" sequel. They brought in just enough from Bioshock, to ***all over it, and nothing more.
Maybe that's why it is $8.99 at Gamestop lol. Although when I play Infinite I don't want to miss out on any story from 2.
Bioshock Infinite takes place earlier in time than Bioshock, also, even if they didn't, I'm almost certain they're not going to be linked narrative in any way. They're totally different games, they just share the same name.
Ah I see. So there are absolutely no redeeming qualities to Bioshock 2?
It's not a terrible game, it just has the burden of attempting to be a sequel to a game that never opened itself up to one.
If you want a goofy distraction, and don't raise the bar as high as the Original set, it's an okay ride. It's definitely just a rental though.
I doesn't match the first's quality for sure. The gameplay is tweaked a little bit better but not enough to make up entirely.
but it does give you another perspective on what happened to the city, if nothing else its a history lesson on rapture. I had fun playing it and for 8$ you can't go wrong.
be warned though its a big disappointment that you're playing as a big daddy and you feel like some weak splicer.
Nah I never imagined 2 being better than the original, but after what I've seen of Infinite today I'm setting my expectations pretty high. At least on the gameplay portion. Story looks promising.
I'll probably pick up Bioshock 2 sometime this week.
I never finish these types of games cause I get bored with them. Had Bioshock since it's release and never finished it. Same with Crysis, Borderlands, and a few others that I either got as promotional or at a friends suggestion. The story in that demo sequence looks really good though, and I hope the gameplay is something to keep you intrigued throughout the title.

Yet somehow you stick with FFXI so long. This does not make sense.
Cant wait, have the premium edition preordered on pc (would get ultimate song bird, but nowhere stocking it for pc) and come the 26th I'm gonna go on a binge
