Well not skirting it now, Obama own this downgrade, he's spending the day hiding out behind closed doors

Has anyone seen the president yet?

Oh and in case you've been living under a rock for the weekend...
U.S. Looses it's AAA Credit rating from S&P.

Sad day for America, this is the only time that this has ever happened. Guess we should have listened to those tea partiers eh? They did after all actually offer an alternative and pass a bill out a bill that would have made deeper cuts.

Thoughts?

had to come eventually. but rating agencies are far from being the absolute good force in this country. imho the usa should have been put AA+ about 10 years ago.

Um.... ok, but it didn't come 10 years ago, it came on last Friday and as a response to the "compromise" that passed in DC. The stock market and the country will see negative consequences from this regardless if it's a far from good force or not.

No doubt he is immensely busy. Still, seeing the schedule (or even just the article referring to the schedule) say:

TheArticle said:
the only item on the president’s schedule this morning is his daily briefing in the Oval Office.

Tonight the president will attend two off-camera DNC fundraisers in Washington, D.C. Obama will speak at a private residence first, before heading to an event at the St. Regis hotel.

is pretty funny/sad/expected/cringeworthy.

Yep, its pretty awful, to see him locking down into campaign mode, especially after all that rhetoric the previous weeks grandstanding how awful it would be if a downgrade occurred.

Oh sorry guys, NO cameras.

I love how Washington learned nothing from the housing market blunder. They know we can't sustain being this far upside down forever, just as the general populous couldn't sustain being that far upside down on their mortgage. Eventually, the true worth of it will be adjusted (things like this downgrade) and we will be forced to come up with cash, or have assets confiscated.

Incoming economic meltdown (hyperinflation) and very large China flag.

All my ideas to fix the economy are bad. This is why I'm not an Econ major.

But, well, as it stands right now the older members of my family are scared. They think they won't be able to retire because their social service will be gone. One of them told me she's going to have to work until the day she dies because of this. One of them is a nurse who visits the homes of elderly people who can't get out. She takes care of them there. Some of the folks she visist on fixed incomes already have it so bad that they eat cat food because it's cheaper. They have to choose between having dinner or having their medicine because they can't afford both. They have 3 or 4 generations living in the same house because it's cheaper than buying or renting several residencies. There's got to be a better to fix the economy than screwing the old folks.

I think (keep in mind that all my ideas on this are unrealistic and probably bad) that all politicians should take a drastic pay cut. They get paid ridiculous amounts of money and benefits and most of them seem to be greedy liars. Why not give politicians minimum wage, or at least something closer to a middle-class wage? That way people would become politicians only if they genuinely wanted to help instead of if they wanted to make money. We'd have good people in those positions in that case, or at least better people. Then we take all the excess that would have gone to their paychecks and use it to start paying off US debts to other countries.

On top of that, we legalize both marijuana and prostitution. People are always going to do them anyways, why not use that to our advantage? Legalize them, then tax the hell out of them. Use those taxes to help pay off US debts.

It would take more than that to bail this country out, loads more. But it would at least be a start. It's never going to happen though. Politicians will never, ever risk denting their own pockets, and people, especially religious people, would be outraged over legalizing prostitution. It would also probably be difficult to tax anyways, difficult to keep track of. Any girl can do prostitution from her own home without any governing body having a clue.

:-(

Liela for president!

Too bad politicians don't become politicians for the right reasons :/

Edit - I don't think you're getting out of this without a lot of people being hurt badly by it. The greater good, etc.

The federal government should do a monthly raffle. Winner gets half the money collected, other half goes to the government. Tickets cost $1. No limit on how many you can purchase.

Stop stealing my ideas. However, my raffle idea was completely for my individual profit. (with a percentage of the earnings going to fund education)

Now my thought on the matter.

You absolutely cannot simply blame this on Obama. How long did we know this could happen? And yet, democrats and republicans alike in Washington could do nothing but get into a pissing contest like children instead of making a swift decision to prevent it.

The leaders of this country are idiots that all need replacing.

Well they have the lottery in PA (well most states) but not a winner each time. I figured if there is a guaranteed winner, more people would get in on it.

Doesn't the money that isn't won just roll over into the next one? Or you think it would be better to have increased chances at a smaller amount.

Yeah, every now and the VA and GA will have a million dollar raffle where they sell a limited amount of tickets that is supposed to be the best odds for winning a million. Tickets always sell out in like 2 days at 20 bucks each.

The amount would still be good since it's the whole country instead of just a state (or a few for some). So I think doing it raffle style would be best.

Actually quite a few of the tea partiers were all for defaulting on certain obligations iirc. That wouldn't have been good for the country's credit rating either.

Agreed.
and to add: If certain criteria and expectations are not met while in office, then have it so politicians are not eligible for re-election.

Make a difference or GTFU

I think you've struck on something very true here, I know exactly what you're talking about when you say "upside down". I hope hyperinflation doesn't hit but it very well might in this decade. The china flag is a little far fetched though methinks...

Politicians fight endlessly over billions in cuts, when they pass TRILLIONS in spending bills. And if they elderly are freaking out, how do they think the younger generations feel?

The people THEY elected screwed them out of their social security, we never had a chance. :p
