Borealis on DRK
Didn't see anything around here about it, but does anyone know how Borealis fairs in the hands of a DRK?
It's supposedly good with Resolution 5/5; had one person say it was better than having Torcleaver @90 but I honestly don't know what their gear setup was like, or if they meant inside/outside abyssea. Not sure how it would fair against a 95/99 Emp though most those are out of a normal players reach still.
Probably a good option though if you can get it to drop. Hmm, well I did manage to get one, which was why I was asking. >.< Currently leveling DRK as we speak.
Best non-magian\relic GS I belive, unless I missed something?
So it's not bad at all What does the Occ Deal Severe WS dmg come out to?
its best weapon for drk for pure damage bar Ragnarok / OAT Gsword. beats apoc sounds in pure damage
suprised those even drop lol.
Is it common for someone to be *** 0/112 on ace's mail/heavy metal pouch on Uptala? If I'm not mistaken Borealis is actually a SAM

Does this beat STR magian GS for Resolution been STR the mod? Ig-Alima, Jueno II tier VI VWNM

I'd say you have about a 20% chance to be 1/112ish on Ace's Mail and a very minute chance to be 1/112 on HMP. Apoc is DRKs most damaging weapon if you know what your doing. Rag is a close second. How does the NQ version of this hold up vs calad 85 and 90?

I would assume that he misread and didn't see that it said "NQ".. i mean unless you can shave off a hit with NQ with that 50 extra delay then i dont think it can beat a 90 calad. especially since it doesn't have the severe ws dmg proc.
Didn't misread.
First of all, it is higher base damage. Higher base damage doesn't mean much, but it means you WS slightly higher, in this case 2-3% higher. Second of all, higher delay, very easy to 6 hit even with /war meaning higher WS frequency even if just slightly in a VW zerg. Third of all, 10 dex helps with accuracy, which is great for high tier VW, and when you are not capped, that's 3-4% of your hit rate (don't forget that it is also for your WS unless you decided to spam Torcleaver) Fourth of all, in a VW zerg you will always never use Torcleaver. You can argue that you can always start with it @300% tp. But you can also SE at the start and use resolution as your first WS. The difference of 4 hits worth of SE and superiority of resolution is significant enough to at least offset a small chunk of the ODD damage that you would be piling up the next 90 secs. The problem is really that you will maybe swing once or twice in between each WS, so the benefit is really small from ODD. So in the end, you WS more because hit build and accuracy, and you WS harder cuz base damage, and you are losing out on ODD. In a VW zerg, I would rather go with WS harder and more. Correct me if calculation shows otherwise tho, I have never been a big fan of ODD outside of Abyssea. It is nice and all that, but in the end it is really a small difference. You'll look prettier swinging Caladbolg, aura or not.

Gotta disagree on that, borealis .dat looks better :p Ragnarok.Returner said: » Correct me if calculation shows otherwise tho, I have never been a big fan of ODD outside of Abyssea. It is nice and all that, but in the end it is really a small difference. ODD is the biggest difference in most Empy/Relic weapons when comparing them to other weapons. If a Caladbolg user is not using Torcleaver at 300% TP then spamming Resolution, he/she is doing it wrong. After all, you're talking about a Voidwatch zerg, where Dusty Wings are plentiful. Allowing you to pop one and use Torcleaver again to keep that aftermath up and continue spamming Resolution~ I don't ever see Borealis beating Ragnarok or Caladbolg when wielded properly. Yeah ODD adds up to a ton of damage for a DRK. Your TP/WS spread is not as big as you are making it out to be.
drk attacks faster than war's too
I don't think anyone is arguing that you should Torcleaver to keep the aftermath up or not, and no doubt it is easy to pop a 300% torc at the beginning or during the fight. But what I was saying was that, everytime you use torcleaver instead of resolution, you lose that little bit of damage. And I have no doubt that ODD can make up but is it enough to offset every other advantage that Hoarfrost is going to give?
If caladbolg and hoarfrost are both same base damage and same delay and no dex difference, then obviously ODD will be the difference despite using a weaker WS to trigger it once a while, but is it big enough of a difference when considering hoarfrost being higher base damage, higher delay, and more accurate? IMO no. Cerberus.Taint said: » Yeah ODD adds up to a ton of damage for a DRK. Your TP/WS spread is not as big as you are making it out to be. For me it is, maybe not the same for Apoc, but my TP:WS spread is usually heavily towards WS when using GS during VW zerg. I have to look at a few parse results to see, but most of them are at least 1:3. whats the difference in dex between mithra and everyone else at 99?
