What would you buy? With the fact that they are planning to cut people's gil down to 10% of what it is currently, I might as well spend all of what I have.

List the things you would buy. Just looking for ways to spend it.

I don't play ffxiv, but if this is really being planned then WTF SE. Should just nerf npc buy-back prices or up drop rates like they've always done in xi.

i hope you understand that everything is getting cut by 1/10 so wasting your money is pointless you going to be broke like hell. When i mean by everything i mean everything NPC Sell/Buy and Mobs gil drop

If i have 100mil that 10m in 2.0 i'll be rich like hell because all the price would be very low.

if you have 10k and you enter 2.0 you going to have 1k but everything you could buy with 10k you still can buy with 1k.

So ya we not losing anything we just going to have a lower number if your rich now you rich in 2.0 if your poor your poor in 2.0.

They aren't cutting the gil you have by 10% they are reducing the [MAX] ammount of gil you can carry by one digit.

Q6: Will you wipe gil from our characters or change the currency with the launch of ARR?
A6: No, there won’t be a gil wipe. However, we do currently have plans to decrease the max digit by 1 (999,999,999 > 99,999,999)

I have every hand discipline at 50 and fishing at 50. I won't have trouble making gil back. I'm not trying to buy items to flip after 2.0, I'm going to spend the gil on gear and materia. That's basically the question. What would you buy to use if you had 85 mil? I have 85 mil, and I have everything at 50 except THM (48) and ARC (11). They both will be 50 by the end of the month though. Ultimately no one answered the question though.

Furniture, and a shitload of it.
And spells and armour and weapons and ***.
And Tarutaru slaves,
And Mithra dancers,
With a side of Galka guardians and Hume lap dancers.
Then I would buy East Sarutabaruta
And everyone who passed through Tahrongi Canyon, the Gate to Windurst Woods and to West Sarutabaruta on Chocobo would have to pay a toll fare.
And all the Mandragoras would finally be mine...

I learned from FFXI (after many hard lessons) never to buy anything, no matter how nicely priced or how much gil I had, prior to a major update or expansion. :p

So I would suggest the same advice in FFXIV after 2.0--those hoping to speculate on current Materia Tier-IV's or certain highly-priced gears might be saddened should they end up releasing other gears (and Materia tiers) that supersede or outdate existing end-game items, at least if those buyers can't 'flip' the items shortly after 2.0 goes live.

I always find this especially true if SE plans to release new classes, areas, and sub-systems which feature their own unique currencies. If 2.0 will also feature true limit breaks to the Level 50 cap down the road, then investing heavily in Level 50 items might be very short-sighted, too, I think. :/

Gil is always liquid, so I'd honestly just hold on to that. Everything will be devalued across the board to 10%, so the buying power won't be decreased by the 2.0 deadline alone. It might be decreasing right now, moment-by-moment, by the huge influx of gil being created by the Atomos event (GC seals > gil via NPC) but SE is apparently not going to do anything about that, so no player can plan for the impact of that inflationary aspect at least.

Actually prices are increasing astronomically across the board right now. There's such a huge influx of gil, and due to the speculation of 2.0, people are jacking prices through the roof. Well all of that, and apparently there was an exploit where people were capping out there gil at 999 billion or whatever the current cap is right now.

I also wasn't really trying to play the speculation game and flip items after the release of 2.0. I'm just trying to find things to buy to actually use my gil. My plan was to just spend all the way down to a million, and then I will start from 100k. With all disciplines of hand (and all luminaries) and fishing (and luminary), I wasn't expecting to have a lot of trouble making gil after the change.

Unless you're reading something I'm not, it doesn't work that way. You're going to lose 90% of your gil no matter how you split it across mules. Unless you make 85 million mules and they each hold 1 gil (but even that could backfire if they round down). A 90% reduction will have the same effect on your mules as it would if you held all the gil on your main.

I do like your idea about paying people for relics though. It's the only suggestion in the entire thread so far.

If you have 85 million now, you will have the exact same worth in 2.0, I think that's what's scaring a lot of people. You won't really lose anything since the WHOLE game will be reduced. So if you have max gil now, you will go into 2.0 with max gil or the equal amount for 2.0. Plus, no one knows exactly what the economy will become like, we may see some of the 10k items soar like crazy and the high value items drop just like it did almost all the time in FFXI. To sum it up, unless you have something you are working towards at this moment, just save your gil.

Buy a shitton of things that NPC well and hold them instead of keeping your money in gil. Then when 2.0 hits, NPC them and enjoy having about as much gil as you did before.

I think other just answer what i mean but anyways. If you waste 85m now which is 8.5m in 2.0. You still be broke vs being rich like you are now you don't really lose anything.

Buying items now is crazy everyone is overpricing stuff due to this 1/10 issue and the fact everyone just doing the live event vs farming/crafting. So i think you save 10x the amount of gil if you buy the items in 2.0 but give it about 1-2months for everything to scale down in the AH. I would just sell, sell, sell then start buying when things go to the right price in 2.0

The biggest problem is going to be how to set prices on the market by players. They are reducing everything to 1/10, but that does not mean people is going to know how to prices their items for 2.0. There is going to by a big amount of high prices on crafted items and materia by players.

It will take a while for the market to get stable. I personally don't know how much to charge for my items when 2.0 launches. That is the biggest problem for these, forget npcs; I don't buy nothing from npcs. Don't spend it, the market is going to be shitty for the first couple of months.

it would take 1-2months but no one going to sell a relic for 20-85mil like there are now. 2-8.5mil is a better price.

So that means you could easy buy loads of weps and meld them yourself seeing how the wep itelf/meld would be super cheap. Coke is right now 100k which mean in 2.0 they be 10k so getting x2 meld weps going to be super easy lol. Which make me mad that i waste on getting monk relic and now working on blm but w/e still worth getting it done now then finding how to win ifrit in 2.0.

Uhhh no, with everything being reduced to 1/10th the value will all remain the same, just because the number is smaller doesn't automaitcly mean the value of it it is less. After the update 100k will hold the same value 1mil does now, or less actually since people will cling to the old higher prices that they knew. Relics will end up costing more in terms of the value of the gil you spend due to both an influx of new players wanting to make them, and older players who are waiting till 2.0 to start on theirs.

Edit: Think of it like the exchange rate when getting money for another country. The ammount of money you trade for may be higher or lower but it's not actually any more or less then you had before when you take into account the exchange.

No one in there right minds would by a wep for 20-35mil in 2.0 not a lot of people going to have that much money. So the price would go down it still be hard to get 1-15mil in 2.0 but at least the items it cost to make the weps would be easy to get with the new DOL/DOH system in 2.0

Overall i'm sure we see less people getting relic in 2.0 due to how hard gil would be to get but the rest of the quest would be easy at least :) and you could always farm/SB to get the wep so ya.

edit: it would take time but the price of stuff would go down. SO best thing to do is sell don't buy much at release of 2.0.

I guess I'm just going to buy a large variety of tier 4 materia then. This thread wasn't much help at all. Seeing as how I have hand all done, I can make anything I will need.

Maybe I can waste a good bit of it doing gambler's crown and grand company achievement.

If I could find a group that would let me in on hamlet, I would just use it all doing relics. Sadly that's not an option.

I don't think you're getting it.. Assuming a straight slash in gil across all aspects of the economy, a 20 million weapon will be the exact same as a 2 million weapon. It doesn't matter where you put the decimal point if everything is floating on the same multiplier. If it takes you the same amount of time to earn 1/10 the gil it would have previously took, but things cost 1/10 their previous cost, theoretically everything should remain stable.

Obviously it won't be an exact 1 to 1 after the fallout just because of perception, but somethings will raise higher in price, and somethings will drop in price. If you can predict accurately what commodities are going to rise and fall then you should stop playing ffxiv because you'd make a lot more money in the business world.

EDIT if your point is that the relic market as it stands is unstable, and will fall that maybe the case. I don't know that market. But that would eventually happen independently of the market shift if there isn't one. The only point of saving money would be solely to buy a relic after their price dropped. It really shouldn't influence your other purchasing options as their value should remain stable at best, and unpredictable at worst.

the problem with that eugene is that, while yes in a perfect world (say a brand new game for example) then your arguement would be valid, but unfortunately there a people in this game with capped gil already that will force inflation across everything. unless of course these people with capped gil don't login or play the game before november and make 10mules and share 10m between each mule.

basically my point is this, it's not going to be an exact 1/10th rate, its going to be somewhere in the middle due to inflation. it will drop dramatically from what we are seeing, but do not be suprised if all the good high tier equip is millions and millions still.
