To give a bit of background info story wise... spoilered in case you don't want to know anything.
for those that have played Neverwinter Nights it is the same world only it is now around 100 years later following the Spellplague. Shortly before the Spellplague there was an uprising in Luskan which resulted in the Hosttower being destroyed. At this time one of the leaders of the Hosttower, Valindra Shadowmantle, was also killed and turned into a Lich against her will which resulted in her going insane. This insanity somehow protected her from the Spellplague so she possesses all her powers from before.
Something that was not known at the time was the tower served another purpose from before it's use by the Arcane Brotherhood. This was to channel water and magic to the ancient dwarf homeland of Gauntlgrym where a fire Primordial had been held prisoner, when it broke free it leveled the city of Neverwinter leading to the current state of rebuilding the city.
I won't go into details beyond that, there was a 4 book series written by R.A. Salvatore which introduces you to the state of the world (the world around Neverwinter that is) along with various possibilities for opposing forces to the players.
If enough people are interesting this I'll attempt to Kali up the OP, for now this is all I've got since I haven't been keeping up too well on it. XD
