You know what's awesome? When people share opinions through their own experiences thinking arrogantly that their thoughts and actions matter at all.

Don't come back to FF. Anybody who isn't 13 honestly shouldn't even be looking at MMO's anymore. Addictive? Not really. FF is merely an intrinsic reflection of ones' self worth. Anyone who has no goals or ambitions in life and claims this game is a good way to relax is just thinking up excuses for being a failure and a liar not only to everyone around them, but to themselves.

p.s. If this is an enjoyable job and means to an end in life, by all means, carpe diem, but otherwise; really?

Thanks
First of i'm 18, so what? I enjoy my life, I work, i don't sit on my backside and sponge off the government all day - you use all these big words to come across as being intelligent yet slander someone who gave me a decent reply and a very strong opinion. I do have goals and ambitions in life yet i enjoyed the game? is there something wrong with this? Only yesterday did i receive a phone call for a new job i am starting at the otherside of the country. However, i would again like to say thanks, it is people like you who backup the arguement that FFXI is full of a group of people who have nothing better to do but act intelligent over the internet and this, im afraid outweighs the group of nice decent people who play the game to chat with people from different backgrounds / cultures and countries.

Feel free to correct and grammatical or spelling errors.

It seems as though different servers are surviving strong and dying. Here at Phoenix, things are still picking up, and still getting new players. Exp parties are plenty, new EG ls's are still being made, yet I've heard the likes of Garuda are slowly losing activity.

If you are going to return and want to play to the game's full potential, it may be an idea to get the gists of the life of the servers and maybe move if you haven't got any strong friends remaining in Sylph, if that one is dying at all.

Just an idea that may help you enjoy the game more if you come back.

This is my first post here I normally don't post but I just wanted to let you know that there are groups out there in this game still that are having fun and enjoying it without acting all elitist. I am currently on Hades and loving it, I came back to the game just over 2 months ago and am having more fun then I ever had before on it. This server is far from dead there is always plenty going on and our linkshell is always busy and people always have something on the go.

I think if you are going to come back now you would need to find a good group of people with similar goals as you that enjoy the events that they are doing in game. Trust me they are out there you just have to do a little looking to find them.

FFXI can be very addictive. Only you know if you'll be able to limit yourself enough so that your RL doesn't suffer. I had to tell myself the same thing when I came back after a few months break because I didn't want it to interrupt with my uni work but I'm playing in moderation now and trying not to fall back into the whirlpool of endgame too much until the holidays.

As for the game being dead/dying, I don't think it is, last time I checked with a random /sea all there's still the same amount of people that there ever was and in fact I've seen more newbies with red questions marks running around sandy than I have in a long time. FFXI won't last forever, I don't know whether FFXIV will kill it or not but I just plan to enjoy it while it's still here.

@Savain: /facepalm. I can't even answer your post it's that stupid.

You *can* have fun with FFXI, provided you have some people you really consider friends, and you avoid any of those ridiculous end-game linkshells that require applications. That's simultaneously one of the saddest and most hilarious things I've ever heard of.

I was about to quit a couple of weeks ago, but my rl best friend decided to reactivate her account, so I'm sticking around. It's fun to go around duoing stuff, doing quests, campaign, helping new players, etc. As long as you take it easy and remind yourself that it's a GAME, it's still fun in small doses.

Remember, being online for 14 hours a day for 4 years to get an imaginary sword, or sifting through code to discover that "X gear" is 1.2% better than "Y gear" isn't going to mean anything when they shut the servers down.

More brits!

When my account got hacked a few months back, I strongly considered quitting, but I stayed because I would miss the friends i've made on this game, doing dynamis, and playing the jobs I enjoy the most. I started playing in february 08, and at times it has seemed like the game dies off, usually around version update time.

I still enjoy the game now, just recently obtained WAR75, and now getting some good equipment for it, i've already got my next 75 planned out, which would make it my 4th.

Getting missions done it a target for me right now, in a CoP static, close to completing Zilart, completed Bastok storyline and want to finish Windurst someday. I'd like to goto Sea someday once PMs are done. So theres alot to do and i will keep playing for as long as i can, getting things done.

Sorry about text wall, got a little carried away lol.

So its up to you Atnaas, good luck with things.

I honestly wouldn't come back unless you have a group of friends and a few end game events to do while you are on. The only reason I log on now is to do Limbus, Einherjar, ZNM, and a few minor events (BCNM, KSNM, ENM) with friends.

Good parties are rare now for exp so leveling a new job might be tough.

Like I said before, this is completely down to which server you're on. Here on Phoenix, good parties are still just as common as before, and new players still coming means low level parties are still frequent.

I recently came back to FF after a few months off.

I pretty much had to solo dnc from 11 to 33 and only got parties for 34-37 with the same 5 peeps over 3 days.

Valfor is dying out, I solo'd in the dunes from one side to the other without even seeing a party for 4 solid hours

While i am used to being alone in game (before i moved to europe i was living in australia therefor bad time match ups) even i have noticed a huge lack of competion in farming, endgame and pretty much anything i used to have to comepete for.

But you know what? I will be here until its me, 3 NA and one JP player left....and i swear i will still see "JP ONRY Party!!" shouts :D

I'm on Siren and I haven't really had any trouble getting a party, with level sync that is. Plus, I keep getting invites when I'm not even seeking! I got a couple in the last few days on drg. I get interested in this game in spurts. I might go a couple weeks with no interest, then go another couple weeks when this game is all I think about. Personally, I wish I never even started playing back in December of 2006. But, it is a good time waster during the winter months when there isn't really anything to do anyway.

Idk, but it could just be your server. I've had parties on rdm every evening that I've worked on leveling it. From lvl 11 to 39, including 1 astral burn even. Took me about a week, give or take a day. Qufim generally has had about 15-30 players in it, Kazham and Garliage there were at least 1 other party while we were there. Not sure about higher levels though atm, but there at least seems to be a lot of subs being leveled on uni. lol.

Edit: I also gained 8 levels in drg yesterday in qufim island in level sync parties. That was a bit rediculous lol!

I've got friends who play that still make the game worthwhile, a decent social LS to play around in, and things I want to do that don't really require me to deal with a lot of the BS around FFXI (end-game drama)..

Unfortunately, the game is dying, and as it has died, the people who realized that the in-game accomplishments they had weren't going to make them the coolest guy at the dance have left..

Which means that even if your server is populous, there are far more numerous examples of those who think that because they have "x number of 75s" and this or that gear, they're the best.. And that as such, they have to be a discriminating *** and poke fun at everyone who isn't quite there yet.

If all my friends left the game, I'd have a very difficult time maintaining any level of interest in the game, I think, so starting back up with many of your friends gone seems like a reason I wouldn't do it.

That's just my opinion. If you can speak fluent ***, though, you'd probably be golden.
