That doesn't mean you have to stay ignorant of what people around you vote for. I like knowing peoples political backgrounds.

People around you, you have to go do a poll.
Asking people on a forum that lives all over a country, thats not exactly the same thing...

What's with US posters trying to turn a simple thread among UK posters into a trans-Atlantic political debate?
Don't ruin their thread, please.

Which is why no one talked about the US elections?
Anyway trying to stay on topic.

hey maybe we could be cleaners aswell? road sweepers? burger king? wow nice to know our children leaving school have good jobs waiting for them
lucky for me my wife has a good enough job that pays the morgage. tescos wouldnt pay my beer money
industry has always been a good sorce of income for kids that dont do to well at school. start at the bottom and work there way up. polish has taken that from them, guess if there lucky and work hard at tescos they could be on 10k a year in the end
so tempted to run to tescos now and asked plz could i work for them lol
I was referring to the groups of people we have all seen on the news etc saying that they can't find any work despite looking for 10 years and blaming it on immigration.
There is nearly always some kind of work out there, even if it isn't highly paid or glamorous, it is work.
And the polish didn't take anything. They applied for a job and for whatever reason beat the other applicants (inb4 cash in hand work, that's not what I am talking about). Any one born in this country should have a far better grasp of the English language than nearly any polish person, so should be a shoe-in even in any job interview (inb4 polish accepting below minimum wage). If and English person can't beat a Polish person to a legal and above board job then the problem isn't the Polish people.

Question for the UK folks, (and if I'm intruding just tell me so and I'll scurry off):
Basically none of the major projections seem to indicate any party will have a sufficient majority to form a government. Conservatives are polling ahead but not by enough.
If you end up with a hung Parliament, who do you think they'll they be more likely to form a coalition with? Labour, or the LibDems?

I have no idea who I will vote for yet.
I am not a recist person but I come from West Yorkshire in a town called Dewsbury, (which is where some of the suicide bombers came from), and over the last 5 years the number of "English" people to "Pakistani" has dropped.
To the point that all our schools are now majority "Pakistani" and offer subjects like Urdu.
The reason I have "" English and Pakistani is when asking people ethnicity, English born pakistani still call themselves Pakistani which irritates me.
Walk down the street people are talking in none native English, have no intention of learning English, look at you like ***for being white and talking English... yet they claim our benefits for this honour.
I have to read a sign/poster in 4 languages, its plain silly.
Rant over, I'm not racist there are some awesome and very skilled foraign people in this countary but really, we are making it too much like "Home" for them. This is England not Makkah.
I will be voting for whoever promises to control the immigration service and help bring back some honour of being English to this once great countary, if you come to England to live and work, learn the language and actually contribute to the £ rather than leeching on benefits that could be used on people that really need.
I know a lot of people "Think" immigration is not an issue. Most of these people live in areas like Short Ferry in Lincolnshire where immigration really isnt noticed but try living where it is.

Not Labour. Both Labour and Conservatives hate each other with a passion. If it's a hung parliment it's going to be completely down to the Lib Dems if they team with conservative or form a minority govt with labour.
I hope it is a hung parliment personally. I don't feel confident in either party bringing "positive" change and would like to see the system shook up a bit.

How ever 'wins' but without a majority will probably aim to cosy up with the Lib Dems. The conservatives and labour would never form a coalition with each other.
My money is still on labour by a thin majority atm. No one likes Gordon but not many people think they can trust the Tories and its easier to hold on to seats than win new ones.
Labour and the lib dems are the best fit in terms of polices and beliefs. But they have both (Cleg and Brown) tried to put distance between the 2 partys in the last few weeks.

I can't see Brown getting another term, I really can't. Did you see the pigs ear he made in the debate?
He basically tried to get "Down with the people" by mentioning X-factor a few times.
Seriously Brown, you're as shallow as a *** kiddy pool.
I can see the Lib-dems getting in by quite a margin atm, even though they have constantly mentioned making Dole much harder to obtain.
I'm hoping that they understand the majority of jobs are taken by Immigrants.

I'd love to vote lib dem but they don't stand a chance where I live so i'm mainly focussing on how to stop conservatives taking power lol
We all know cuts are comming but I just don't have faith that the tories will make the "right" cuts.
Interesting how people are voting based on immigration, seems to a be a issue missed by the main parties, I know a few people who are undecided and would like to see this curbed and it would sway their vote.
And at what Jetz said earlier about the different styles of the leaders i.e. Brown being more serious looking, it's a decent point. Can you really see David Cameron sitting in a room with the russian president, the chinese, obama and the other world leaders discussing serious global issues? I can't see it myself lol If there's one thing Brown has its the respect of the other world leaders.

Now all he needs is the respect of the country he governs >.>

Agree'd.
They were really refreshing in the first 2-3 years of power, but now they've just become so lazy.

Lib dem or hung parliment hopfully, i'm sick of the political wars between torries and labour.
Maybe it's because i'm a first time voter in the election but it just seems to me both main 2 parites care only about getting voted into power and bashing the opposition at every opptunity neither of which does any good for the country.
They all say what we want to hear but do I see a costed and well thought out solid plan to tackle any of the current issues from either party? No, i'll have to wait till the first budjet to /facepalm over the nasty surprises they have for us.

its not just the main 2 parties that will say anything to get into power. ALL the parties will say anything to get into power.no matter who takes labour out wont do anything but raise taxes for the 5 years then next election blame the countrys mess on the last labour goverment. it happens every time
labour came into power when the tories had the pound at an all time high and unemployment an all time low but the tories messed up industry trying to get the last labours unions stranglehold out so labour targeted that and of course the most important thing that got labour in was that stupid song "things can only get better" targeted at the students.
but in the end just like last time the tories will sort of labours total *** up

What is a hung parliament anyway?
I tried looking into it, but wherever I looked, I got a sense of "OMG the rainforests are gonna die" feel out of every article.

a Hung Parliament is where no party has enough seats/votes to outright win so they must joinup together to have enough seats to make a government.

Personally i think every General Election someone new should win, it'd keep things fresh because anyone who's been in power for 12+ years (like Labour) they feel as if all they gotta do is talk abunch of BS and people will vote for them.

its where the elected party dont have enough seats to make a majority party so in laymans terms have to agree with another party to make any actions on anything.

Our entire government is based on sharing opinions and debating with each other (supposedly lol). That's how we roll in britain. It isn't like USA where you elect a president and he is the bottomline and makes the decisions (Not saying he can do whatever he likes, but it is very different from here).
I opened the topic because this election is really significant and -everyone- in the country isn't sure who to vote. Even life long supporters of whatever party are now changing their mind. That is the situation here - if you were BRITISH, you would know that, and you would understand the topic. But you aren't - which is precisely why I said British only in the title. Not because I'm being rude, and I don't mind other people posting - a lot of you non british have posted some good stuff so far - but because you don't know the full picture.
Ironically, the topic hasn't really helped with my own confusion so far =p I think I'm swinging towards labour though.

Until recently this wouldn't have been possible considering the amount of hatred for both labour and conservatives around the country.
But yeah politics really does need to be changed, the system barely works as shown by the low number of people actually voting at all last election and the lack of faith in politics these days.
For all my fellow Brits on here who are old enough to vote: Who will you be voting for tomorrow, and why?
I've still not decided between Labour and Lib Dem. So confusing!
