Under-educated masses, Avatar: The Last Airbender was out way before Avatar (the shitty looking blue people) was even in production stages. This is a live Action movie of the Animated series on Nickolodean.
I wasn't talking about the intergalatic smurfs, good sir. Don't know how in the world you thought i meant that given the topic title is "R.I.P. Last Air Bender."

Yes it is, Zefiris, yes it is. Weird, too, it was a nice "god we hate this movie" thread until it degenerated a bit.

I guess it's just disappointing for so many of us that there was so much potential there and it just got squandered.

Now, who wants to see how badly they *** up "Cowboy Bebop?" :D

They adapted the film to be more entertaining via film I assume, usually when they do that they risk either a major hit or a flop.
Most of the time they don't do movies that are related to Japanese animation(atleast in style) justice.
Ex. would be dragon ball.

I honestly wouldn't care about the "fanbase" of previous, but the new fanbase of people who don't know the series, or chose not to watch it like myself.
It's all about the big $
making it completely a kids film like the anime would be probably wouldn't get the action buff sheeps dropping their 10-20 bucks on 3d movies.

i really think it wouldn't sell as much if they went in with the same kind of idea that the series did, but then i haven't watched much into it so I'll find out eventually once I get a good rip of the movie.
You make some good points, granted, but word of mouth would get butts into those seats, and the fanbase is rapidly badmouthing it.

As for the series, yes, it was made for kids, but quite a few adults enjoy it as well, and the martial arts in the series are authentic. Several martial artists have commented that they look LESS authentic in the film.

And if you want evidence of the film's failure to entice people to see it... well, you're planning to wait for a decent rip of it instead of going to the theater, and odds are you're not the only one. :)
I rarely go to theaters for Movies.
So that's a bit of a non-point in my case.
but in their defense, they were just trying to make a buck off of the whole superhero type movie franchise just like dragon ball..that crowd never thinks things through really anyway. lol.
they just want flashy graphics and big explosions, that's all they are looking for.
example: the plot of the movie Avatar(not the air bender one)

The show is anything but created for kids. It's stylized to be appealing to kids, but the majority of actual content is geared toward adults. I highly suggest anyone who hasn't watched A:TLA to go see it now.

hey as long as the children enjoy these kind of movies who cares =p
it's nice to see children enjoy movies that come from their favorite cartoons, it makes things that are on their imagination more real, and that really hypes them up :)

Saying the Avatar cartoon is for kids is like saying the pokemon games are for kids or all comics are for kids.

it's being slanted towards kids regardless what point you make.
edit:or do you see it appearing on anything other than a child timeslot/television station???

you can't really make the comparison with the game.
tis not in the same category.
or do you think that the pokemon anime is for adults too?

You have a good point. Family Guy is also on Cartoon Network, clearly it was made for kids.

Do they air it normally outside of adult swim?

This isn't even worth the effort.

Cartoon Network is, and always was, a kids' channel. That's like saying that MTV is completely a legitimate music channel when all they play is Reality shows. The M stands for music, and it was designed as a music channel.

Ent, I do have to say that you don't know what the *** you are talking about.
I'll elaborate on why once I get done fixing this 73 year old deaf guys internets.
OOOOOkay.
Let's break it down.
Cartoon network has a block of time when children typically are asleep, they call it "Adult Swim" in that time they air adult oriented or otherwise humorous shows animated or otherwise.
Within the same timeslot on Nick you have what?
Reruns.
and then it goes back to being kid programming.
the difference is that CN has adult oriented programming while Nick never really wanted to go into that.
The closest they got to that was with shows like "All that" and all.

MTV and Nick are owned by the same company I do want to point out that though.
All of this is a bit beside the point past my CN post.
but it proves my point that Nick is inherently child oriented.
I would have rather watched Jackie Chan adventures bro.
but this is a futile argument either way... so I'd say I'm done with it if you are, if you continue with a point rather than us repeating the same ***back to each other I'm game.

It sucked so bad. I couldnt finish watching it. I was disappointed with the actors they chose for these roles. Maybe some actors who actually looked like the ones from the anime would have helped?
The boy that played Aang in the Live-action movie also was the voice-over actor for the series...
No he was not. The kid in the movie was a random pick from a casting call where the boy that voiced Aang is Zach Tyler Eisen who is a totally different person from the actor who played Aang is Noah Ringer!!
