Don't want government healthcare, but don't want to take steps to make the nation healthier through programs like the above. Don't want abortion, but don't want to adopt or support the millions of welfare babies that it would create. I could continue.... But it's a waste of time. This was a doofus mistake made on the part of one person. This isn't some horrible government intrusion into the privacy of a 4 year old as half of you are trying to spin it. Personally... If I could only send junk with my daughter for lunch I would love it if someone else was helping to looking out for her. Also, should I ever accidentally mis-pack her lunch while rushing around in the morning, I would not argue with the school feeding her instead of having a sad little girl with half a lunch that is to afraid to ask anyone for more. Raising awareness is a small but valuable outcome of discussing things like this, even in irrelevant forums pertaining to a video game. Though relevant conversation and (relatively) civil debates and discussions is good food for the mind. My Iphone is intruding on my first amendment rights...
Considering their "implied" stance on government and personal freedoms... They should be hippies.

ITT: Twinkies and Soda don't lead to heart disease, diabetes, stroke, obesity and long-term health complications. Kids learn by what they see around them. Some parents do a good job and should continue to do so but other by circumstance or bad habit pass habits to their kids that lead to long term health problems that eventually affect us all. Children are not adults and are not capable of making decisions for themselves and also should not suffer for their parents poor decisions. Here's where school - the bastion of education - can come in. If you teach kids that healthy food is the way to go a significant group will take the advice which pays off in the long run for us in lower medical costs, a healthier population and a country that realizes that health is wealth. Not every person will take in this lesson but at least we can rest assured knowing that we tried. Enough with the red herrings. We've already said this case specifically is an isolated incident and doesn't change the fact that something should be done kids being doomed to a laundry list of medical issues because of their parents income/decisions. What is your solution? Lets hear it. If you say that lobbyists should stop hijacking pols to dump their cardboard pizzas on kids perhaps I could agree with you. I mean seriously dude, stop thinking you have some right to force me to live my life or raise my kids in a way that you approve. You mean when you default on the medical bills. Lower income individuals are the ones hit hardest by the obesity epidemic and guess what? They don't have money to pay X thousands of dollars to visit a doctor so they'll take the services and just dodge the bills. Maybe if you'd have educated that kid before they went to hell in a handbasket they wouldn't have had to run up medical bills. I don't get why schools offer their 'healthy' school lunch, but also have snack carts filled with cookies, chips, and ice cream bars, along with vending machines filled with soda. Also, if it's the poor, inner city parents who send their kids to school with junk, why aren't they already on free/reduced school lunch? Most of the kids I knew who had free lunch just bought candy from the vending machines.
