I doubt they have the time to give all the students the water displacement measurement even though that's the most accurate way to measure. Calipers carry too much room for error and the BMI calculator is just a 50/50.
Right hurrrr.
Also, it called me obese, not fat...
NOW WHERE'S MY HAAGEN-DAZS?!

But we all know the calculator is flawed. So how is this school going to prove those students are over 30%? Right now I'm 26% and you all will laugh thinking I should be under 20%.

Thirdly im not trying to crack on people over weight. im just askin the question is the school trying to disprove genetics. (Half of the trailer parks will be furious for reading this) or are they just trying to stop people being lazy. Cause seriously who needs to be physically fit to be a personal calculator for some big wig at some firm? seriously who? Yes there are some jobs that are suited towards being physically fit. but you know what. if you applied for the job, you know whats in store for you work wise. I never showed up to a construction job thinking i was just going to sit on my *** and doodle.
would have been pretty epic work though if i did >.>

So I'm wondering how it cures laziness, since most student sit on their *** all the time.
Ok, now what I REALLY want to know is, are they going to instill some sort of punishment on the fat *** employees as well? I mean, fat *** students get their diploma withheld from them. Shouldn't the employees be setting an example for these students? Mr. Timothy Lewis has man boobs, ffs!.
(I'm having way too much fun with this, I know)

you are all missing the point.... It is a school for education. Knowledge of how to do the job is what is needed not the physical apperance or health. If we are doing BMI what about the "too skinny" kids? you can say fat ppl are fat by choice but that is just *** bs. If this continues then its gonna be a mess. Dont force your standards onto other people with looks and health. Oh well tho right. It was bound to happen sooner or later, someone was gonna say that kids are too fat and "do something" about it. How about putting an age limit on fast food? why not make it illegal to buy take out for minors or make you serve jail time for being an unfit parent and take your kids away if they are fat or too fat or the fattest? why not? OR OR OR you can do the smart thing the right thing. STFU.
Ok but really tho... Isnt there enough ***to deal with already reguarding your looks? you are just getting out of school and going into the work force completely free of mom and dad looking for a wife/husband and you can get the job you want because you are over weight? I havent heard of anyone not hiring someone because they are too big, and if they do fine its their company. But school is not the place to be told you are too overweight and you have earned your diploma so get it and leave. Id say start a million lbs march but then you got to find enough fat people that can walk and can walk futher then the couch to fridge. Its not ok to place standards on people that involve looks. what if they are smart but crazy ugly? are we then make a beauty course for them?

I think I brought up some fabulous points, and they all say the same thing:
This
School
Is
Stupid
Fin.
PS: They already charge parents with being unfit for starving their kids. I wouldn't mind someone stepping in and charging parents for making their 5 year old weigh 80 pounds.
PPS: Oh yea, this isn't about how people look. This isn't creating a super human race that's all attractive. They aren't telling everyone with gaps in their teeth to get braces, or people with acne to see a dermatologist. They are hiding under the facade that they are promoting healthy lifestyles, which is A-OK! *thumbs up*

I dont think your directed at me, but not ripping on fat people. was kinda trying to emphasize soceity. but yes you are right. Crack skinny mofos need to gain some weight. but then again if they do. then who will the fat people be able to pick on?

"you are all missing the point.... It is a school for education. Knowledge of how to do the job is what is needed not the physical apperance or health." I'd agree with this if there weren't already classes that you don't need to do your job that are required. For example, I don't need Humanities to hand out pills as a pharmacist.
Unrelated classes, you have to take them all the time. If I had my choice, I'd prefer it be physical education, something I can take and use in every day life, than something I study to pass a test, and will never see again for the rest of my life.

and another thing :D
We are growing too fast as a world, the world pop. has doubled since the 1950s, we need some population control, if food kills the people faster its better than war and more profitable. If there were no cancers or AIDs or war then we would all be dead right now. And instead of talking ***and talking down to the people that are fat why not encourage and teach as friends and family. I said encourage not judge, force or demand. Its all still freedom of choice. And being fat isnt a choice. No one really thinks "Wow i need to gain weight, have rolls, stretch marks and a double chin". Sometimes it just happens. A day at a time a pound at a time. And an opinion is like saying "I think that this is a good idea", being an *** is saying "fat people are disgusting" and tho it is in the form of an opinion you are still a ***.

For all those being offended. take what crawled up your *** and died out, re-adjust to the nice atmosphere of calmness. and understand im not judging people who are obese, crack *** skinny, ugly, lolhawt(Models with no sense of decency towards people in general need to die), crippled or friggin healthy.
I agree society sucks. We live in a world of buy/eat/***/oooshiny.
I do however believe that guess what. You did choose the way your life is. Theres nothing, that prevents a person from being how they want to be. Personal expierence- Had severe acne in highschool. lots of torment.
Guess what. im genetically configured to have horrible acne, however theres this nice thing called face wash that did wonders. not saying cream to cure obseity. dont believe the commercials people. well the majority.
But seriously. its manageable, you just need the effort.

No i dont belive in eugenics i said that its a form or population control and that we should start selecting who can reproduce and such. i said people need to die, its a fact of life, im not pushing for people to die im saying it needs to happen so everyone can live. If no one ever dies then the world would suck bigger balls then it does now.

Your lack of grammar may have me confused, but did you seriously just say we should start selecting people who can reproduce? How would you go about selecting these people? By race? Religion? What kind of music they like? What hairstyle they wore in 1997?
What about your speech on freedom of choice? Isn't part of freedom of choice being able to decide if you want to have children or not?
Or does freedom of choice only apply to fat people now?
Copy/pasta from BG, but since its not mentioned here yet, I thought I'd port it over.
Qalbert;3277302 said: http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/11/30/lincoln.fitness.overweight/index.htmlQuote: (CNN) -- Most college students expect to receive their diplomas on the basis of grades, but at a Pennsylvania school, physical fitness matters too.
Students at Lincoln University with a body mass index of 30 or above, reflective of obesity, must take a fitness course that meets three hours per week. Those who are assigned to the class but do not complete it cannot graduate.
Calculate your body mass index
Now that the first class to have this requirement imposed is nearing graduation day -- students who entered in the fall of 2006 -- the school faces criticism from both students and outsiders about the fitness class policy.
One of those students is Tiana Lawson, 21, whose recent editorial in the student paper has drawn national attention to the issue. Lawson wrote in The Lincolnian that she would be more understanding if the requirement applied to everyone. She thinks all students, not just those with a high BMI, should have to take the class.
"I didn't come to Lincoln to be told that my weight is not in an acceptable range," Lawson wrote. "I came here to get an education which, as a three-time honor student, is something I have been doing quite well, despite the fact that I have a slightly high Body Mass Index."
Lawson, who told CNN she had been putting off getting her BMI tested until this year, recently found out she would have to take the class. At first angry, Lawson said she is now more "confused" about the requirement.
"I don't know why they would want some people to be more healthy than others," she said.
But James DeBoy, chairman of the school's Department of Health and Physical Education, says the requirement is just like courses to help students' communications or math proficiency. The faculty also has a priority to be honest with students, he said.
"We, as educators, must tell students when we believe, in our heart of hearts, when certain factors, certain behaviors, attitudes, whatever, are going to hinder that student from achieving and maximizing their life goals," he said.
Moreover, if there were unlimited resources, the fitness opportunities would be for all students, but that is not the reality, he said.
The historically black college receives public funding, but is under independent control.
Obesity increases a person's risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke, some cancers and other ailments. African-Americans were 1.4 times as likely to be obese as non-Hispanic whites in 2007, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. About four out of five African-American women are overweight or obese, the agency said.
"Obesity is going to rob you of your quality and quantity of life," DeBoy said. "We believe that this is unconscionable."
The fitness course, called "Fitness for Life," consists of activities including water aerobics, Tai Bo and aerobic dance, he said.
Because BMI is not a perfect measure of obesity, students also have their waist circumference measured, he said. There are some people who have a high BMI because of their muscle mass, but are not actually obese, and the waist measurement is meant to weed out those people.
From a legal perspective, the school's requirement seems "paternalistic" and "intrusive," said David Kairys, professor of law at Temple University Law School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
"The part that seems excessive is forcing them to take this course, or to exercise three hours a week, which isn't a bad idea for them, but should be their choice," he said.
Lincoln is "breaking new ground" with this requirement, as Kairys has not heard of one like it at other schools.
Some students, such as Brittnai Panton, a 19-year-old freshman from Decatur, Georgia, like the requirement. She tested out of having to take the class, but supports having it around.
"Being in this day and age where people are becoming overweight and need more fitness, I think it's a great idea to earn extra credit, an easy extra credit," she said.
Many of her classmates don't find it offensive, she said.
"It is like you're getting a second chance to actually do fitness in school, which certain people wouldn't do," she said. "Many of them find it an easy credit."
DeBoy said 620 students have either tested out or taken the course, with 80 remaining to get their BMI evaluated. He estimates 12 to 15 will need to take the fitness class in January.
When the faculty first approved the fitness course requirement in 2006, there were minimal concerns raised, he said. The intention is to spread the message that people in school, including high school and middle school, need more physical activity.
"This is one university's -- granted it's radical and it's upsetting -- approach to try to begin to directly address" obesity, he said. That's some seriously heavy stuff.
