Rofl, Korpg. I can tutor you in Chem, that's my minor once I'm done with biochemistry. :P

And you could very possibly google "sulfuric acid" for H2SO4.

zomg, like its cohesive-adhesive effect, and its low specific heat, and its dipole-dipole effect, and its ability to dissociate, and its ability to act as a weak acid/base, and its overall awesome properties? :D :D :D

Anye do you understand electron configurations like
s,p,d,f and when each of those comes in on the periodic table? Like Finding electron configuration for Xe, going to last noble gas and simplifying from there?

I've placed my life in God's hands after I killed a hooker whilst in a drunken rage, plus I snorted Coke too.

I tried AA meetings but those people had problems, so I went to the church, those choir girls are so hot.

Yeah... it's basically the physics side of chemistry, understanding the general placement of electrons--as they're constantly moving, we can only say "this is where we've found it... MOST of the time."

Essentially, the periodic table is your friend. If you're in General Chemistry, I'd advise that you print one out, and start getting to know it really well--draw arrows according to increasing electonegativity, shell size and ionization; label alkaline/alkaline earth metals, noble gases, etc. I've missed a few but you get my point.

On a very basic level you need to understand at first that the first electron shell, s (the one closest to the nucleus), can only hold 2 electrons. That's why the first row of the periodic table only shows 2 elements. the second shell, p, can only hold 6; d, 10; and f, 14. (Elements begin to have larger shells as you progress down the periodic table, but we generally don't go into those because they are a) highly unstable and are never in a constant state, and as a result, b) are not useful in the understanding of chemistry.

As for electron configuration, just remember "s, p, d, f; 2, 6, 10, 14" repeat that like 20 times. And then look at the first row: 1s. then 2nd row: 2s, 2p. 3rd row: 3s, 3p. 4th row: 4s, 3d, 4p--wait, WTF, 3d!?

That's according to the Aufbau principle that... uh, well... explains in big words that 4s shells fill first because the s orbital is closer to the nucleus and feels less of a repulsive effect of other electrons than others do.

So the order--Oh, thank God wiki has it!--looks like this:

(and here I was going to do it on Windows Paint. :x)

Hope that helps :)

AHahahaha, well... it gets a little more deeper than that, but yeah, that's the general idea. ^^;

It really is quite a marvelously intricate system that still stuns me to this day.

Days like these I'm Glad I'm a Culinary Arts Major. No Studying involved, no homework. My finals are really hard though, you basically have a ***ton of stuff to cook and not enough time to do it in so you have to organize, prioritize, and be really aware of everything that's going on in more then one pan/oven/pot. ~_~

Bright Side if you get things right you get to eat like a god! =D
You fail... Start Scrubbing >.<

The most amount of work i do in a semester is the night before a practical I make prep sheets and time lines, plan out exactly how i'm going to cook what, when.
The final itself is the most Nerve racking, stressful 4-5hour of your life cuz that god damn clock stairs at you laughing the entire time... "tick tock.."

Will tutor for gil. j/k

You will be amazed at what answers you can find on Google.

Someone asked about electron configuration? The higher elemenents get harder to count.

For example K is
1s2, 2s2, 2p6, 3s2, 2p6, 4s1 or [Ar]4s1 you'll see the latter used more since it's less work to write out.

Co
[Ar]4s2,3d7

Don't ask about drawing the HOMO diagrams. It's really complicated at this level. I'll type more if you want to learn more. I taught CHEM 1 and CHEM 2 at a university as a TA. Then I said to myself, I hate doing chem and got my Masters and switched to Chemical Engineering. It took me 6 years to figure that out.

I *technically* have three finals, two are tomorrow (wed.). One of those is watching O Brother Where Art Thou? and the second is combined of all the quizzes we've had this year. Then I have a math test on Thursday. Pretty light load considering some of the things people are having to do.

lol, I get to do my Anatomy practical practically pants-less!
Just got to school and had a major wedgie from the bike ride here, thought I'd be able to fix it w/o going to the bathroom, popped the zipper and button both right off my pants.
7am now and I'll be at this campus till 11am, then 6 mile bike ride to campus B till 5pm.

Long day ahead.

ROFL, it's np. Be careful when you get to the lanthanides and actinides (the part of the periodic table that gets "cut and pasted" to the very bottom because it wouldn't fit on paper otherwise: They fit in where the *'s are, and the Aufbau principle also applies there; Lanthanum is actually part of the F series (Ooh, that picture is wrong :/), so La would be [Ar] 6s2 4f1, and Cerium (Ce) would be [Ar]6s2 4f2. It's a good trick question really, really mean profs use to "make sure their students are paying attention in class," i.e., helping you lose points. X_x
